PPWR requirements by packaging type
There is no single checklist that applies unchanged to every package. Start with the packaging function, then route material, use, lifecycle and market-specific questions.
Two e-commerce boxes can require different evidence if one touches food, one is reusable, one uses plastic components or the responsible operator and markets differ.

Checks that start with every format
Questions that change the result
- Does the packaging or any component contain plastic, and what percentage of the total weight does it represent?
- Is it intended to contact food, or is it one of the formats routed to compostability or restrictions?
- Is it sales, grouped, transport, e-commerce, service or takeaway packaging?
- Is it genuinely reusable within a defined system, or merely capable of being used again?
- Is it a beverage container within a deposit-return route?
- Are environmental claims or material symbols printed on the packaging?
- Which company is the manufacturer, importer, distributor, marketplace or distance seller for the actual transaction?
Example: an e-commerce shipping box
A paper shipping box avoids plastic recycled-content and food-contact PFAS routes when those facts are confirmed. It still needs component data, heavy-metal evidence, recyclability and minimisation work, technical documentation, a conformity conclusion, traceability and country EPR mapping. The packed configuration also activates the empty-space calculation.
